Brendan Grant is an artist based in Lower Hutt, Wellington
and has lived there almost all his life.
He makes his living off his art prints in various outlets, mainly the Welly Collective shops. Also he goes to many different markets, fairs and festivals. This makes his work accessible and enjoyed by a wide range of different people.
He grew up drawing; mostly cartoons and comic book characters. But then he realised he likes working with bright colours the most and got more into painting. Colour became a new means of self exploration and expression.
With colour being the new main focus, eventually he established his main subject matter as Wellington City, a city with great scope for landscape painting (asides from the weather being usually too windy to set up an easel outside. ) Although if you browse the Other Works Gallery on this page you can see other various subjects he sometimes works on and the International Paintings Gallery have paintings from some places around the world.
Brendan’s art aims to capture the comings and goings of the city,
and to help people remember places and events and to celebrates life in the City.
His painting subjects are chosen for a good variety of painting subjects and also based on his connection to the places. His paintings follow his own digital photographs. Usually many photos for one subjects.
As well, he often works on commission paintings, which give him new inspirations and challenges.
